Hopi Ear Candles (Thermal Auricular Therapy)
Hopi Ear Candling or Thermal Auricular Therapy as it is sometimes known is an ideal therapy for treating the ear, nose and throat. The candles, once lit, are placed in the opening of the ear canal, and use convection to draw air into the first chamber of the ear. The candle creates a mild suction which enables wax and other impurities in the ear to be drawn out of the ear and into the candle.
It is the Hopi Indians of North East Arizona that lend their name to this treatment as they use the candles in medicinal ceremonies. In The Centre we use traditional Hopi Ear candles from Biosun as they are made to EU standards and have a safety line which we burn the candle down to.
The candles can be used for relaxation purposes as well as to address problems associated with the ears. The following conditions may benefit from the use of ear candles: tinnitus, sore throats, hay fever, headache, migraine, sinus problems, catarrh, vertigo, Meniers disease and neuralgia. There are also some instances where candles cannot be used and these include: recent ear surgery, perforated ear drum(s), grommets, recent infection to the ear as well as any associated problems with the ears. A full consultation will always take place prior to you having the treatment. Where necessary, you may be required to gain permission from your GP for the therapy to go ahead.
You can choose to have just the ears treated or you can combine this treatment with a relaxing facial massage. This facial massage will also improve circulation and energy to the area. After the treatment, the candles can be examined to see what impurities were drawn out of each ear. Both ears are treated in this treatment.
